Mrs Indira Malkani
Indrani Malkani nee Mukherjee was born in Calcutta (Kolkata) and graduated from Loreto College .She has recently received the Loreto College – Alumnae Achiever’s Award – Centenary Year in February 2012.
Indrani Malkani joined the Taj Group of Hotels, in 1982. In time she rose to the position of Conventions and Conference Manager and coordinated various National and International events. Her Hotel career ended when she married Capt. Ashok Malkani and relocated to Mumbai in 1989.
In April 2000, The Little Gibbs Roads ALM ((Advance Locality Management) was started by her and her colleague. This ALM was instrumental in starting the BMC’s integrated Relay Transport System of segregated waste collection in November.
In 2002 the ‘Model School Bus System’ was conceptualized and implemented by Indrani Malkani in partnership with the Mumbai Traffic Police and the Cathedral and John Connon School. This system was accepted as a model on which the State of Maharashtra has based its Policy of Transportation of School Children.
In 2012, she involved her trust VCAN in the particular matters of Revision of Electoral Rolls, Voter Registration/Deletion and which would positively impact Voter Turnout. As Trustee, V Citizens Action Network (VCAN),and Founder Trustee & Hon Secretary of Malabar Hill Residents’ Association, she is affiliated with many non profit organisations, citizens groups and NGO’s.
In 2002 she received the award for “Swaacha Mumbai Abhiyan organized by MCGM and also received the Mumbai Police Gaurav Patra and Medal in September 2012. Indrani was featured among 26 Mumbai Heroes by the Mumbai Mirror – 22nd/27th June 2013.
